Shine your runners!
Well we’ve fought Mother Nature in the past – shoveling snow onto the trail, laying plastic over the trail – but in those years we had more to fight with.
After the rain last night, there’s really not much to fight with this year. Unless you want to buy a wheel kit for your runner sled, there’s not much sliding to be had around these parts. Things could definitely change.
If you’re in town this weekend swing on over to Hogback Mountain Farm and folks will have their sleds out, playing music, grilling and talking runner sleds.
If you’re not in the area, we encourage going into your own woods and working on a trail for the next time there is good sliding weather!
Weather has not been cooperating.
The snow on Hogback Mountain is gone, but since Frye Mountain still has ice on some of its trails, there will be a Runner Sled event on Frye Mountain next Saturday, February 27.
If conditions allow, there will be a race, but there is sure to be sliding either way; so bring your sled and your family and let’s go sliding!
Meet at Hogback Mountain Farm or the Frye Mountain gate on rte. 220 at between 8 and 8:30.
New England Runner Sled Championships are set for Saturday February 27 on Hogback Mountain in Montville, Maine.
Pray for snow.
Current Trail Report: if it froze tonight we could go sliding on the north side tomorrow, but more snow would make it a lot safer. The way it is now if you go off the trail you’ll pretty much hit a tree or a rock wall and stove yourself up.
There is frozen ground and plenty of snow… everything is looking good for the races on 2/21/15.
The newly cut trails will be groomed out over the next couple weeks.
Like last year, there is no qualifying runs necessary.. Just show up on 2/21/15 at 8 am on the backside of Hogback Mtn
The date is Saturday February 21, 2015 and the place is Hogback Mountain in Montville, Maine.
There will be a more thorough announcement on January 1 or thereabouts, but with all the work that has been done to the trail system since last year’s race, we are looking forward to the best sliding ever!
SPREAD THE WORD:
Qualifying is on for this Saturday but there is a change in location, due to this last minute storm we are getting:
Begins at 830 am at
Hogback Mountain Rd in Montville, Maine
Don’t forget, you don’t have to come to qualifying (but it will help your seeding), so you can still show up on Race Day and compete for the title of Fastest Runner Sledder in All the Land!
At the 2014 edition of the New England Runner Sled Championship, racers will have two chances to qualify for the title of
